   HYBRID GRAPPLING REGULATIONS


1) DEFINITIONS: 


Hybrid Grappling is a non-striking hybrid sport formed of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Mixed Martial Arts, Judo, Wrestling and all other styles of submission fighting whose art consists of forcing an opponent to surrender through the application of locks and chocking techniques.

In accordance with the general philosophy of sport, the grapplers are required to honour the values of sportsmanship and fair play and they shall never intentionally injure a fellow competitor in competition.


 2) WEIGHT, LEVEL, GENDER AND AGE DIVISIONS: 


The classes for Hybrid Grappling contests or exhibitions and the weights, level, gender and age division for each class shall be:

The participants must weigh prior to the first match with one chance only and shall have 1 kg clothing tolerance. Hybrid Grappling Competitions with weigh in schedule for the previous day of the tournament shall have no weigh tolerance. 



3) FIGHTING AREA REQUIREMENTS AND EQUIPMENT:  


 A) Hybrid Grappling contests and exhibitions may be held in mat area not smaller than 79 square meter.    


 B) MOUTHPIECES: 

 B-1)  All contestants are required to wear a mouthpiece during competition. The mouthpiece shall be subject to examination and approval prior to weigh in. 

 B-2)  The Match cannot begin without the mouthpiece in place. 

 B-3)  If the mouthpiece is involuntarily dislodged during competition, the referee shall call time, clean the mouthpiece, and reinsert the mouthpiece at the first opportune moment without interfering with the immediate action. 


 C) PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:  

 C-1)  Male hybrid grapplers is allowed to wear a groin protector of their own selection if desired, of a type approved by the organisation. 

 C-2)  Female Hybrid Grapplers are prohibited from wearing groin protectors. 

 C-3)  Female hybrid grapplers shall wear a chest protector during competition. The chest protector shall be subject to approval of the organisation.


 D) APPAREL: 


 D-1)  Each contestant shall wear board shorts, approved by the organisation. 

 D-2)  Each contestant must wear a rash guard approved by the organisation. 

 C-3) In the events that the organisation provides hybrid grappling uniforms for the premier finals its compulsory to wear otherwise your own approved gear is acceptable.

 C-4)  Shoes and any type of padding on the feet are prohibited during competition. 


 E) APPEARANCE: 


 E-1) Each hybrid grappler must be clean and present a tidy appearance. 

 E-2) The excessive use of grease or any other foreign substance may not be used on the face or body of a hybrid grappler.  The referees  shall cause any excessive grease or foreign substance to be removed. 

 E-3) The staff group or a referee shall determine whether head or facial hair presents any hazard to the safety of the hybrid grappler or his opponent or will interfere with the supervision and conduct of the contest or exhibition. If the head or facial hair of a hybrid grappler presents such a hazard or will interfere with the supervision and conduct of the contest or exhibition, the hybrid grappler may not compete in the contest or exhibition unless the circumstances creating the hazard or potential interference are corrected to the satisfaction of the organisation. 

 E-4) An hybrid grappler may not wear any jewellery or other piercing accessories while competing in the contest or exhibition. 


 F) MATCH LENGTH: 


 F-1) Each Hybrid Grappling contest from UP17 Division and above is to be 1 round of 5 minutes duration. 

  

 G)STOPPING CONTEST: 


 G-1) The referee is the sole arbiter of a contest and is the only individual authorised to stop a contest.  The referee may take advice from the tournament doctor/physician with respect to the decision to stop a contest. 


 G-2) The referee and the tournament doctor/physician are the only individuals authorised to enter the mat/fighting area at any time during competition other than the rest periods and subsequent to the contest ending.

 G-3) The referee has the authority to stop any kind of situation in a contest that he/she believe will put an contestant in physical danger. 


 H) Referee: 


 H-1)  All bouts will be evaluated and scored by 1 or 3 referee's(final bouts) who shall evaluate the contest from each specific mat position that he/she is. 

 H-2) The Hybrid Grappling System(see below) will be the standard system of scoring a bout. 

 H-3) Score system:


 notice: every position must be held for at least 3 seconds and be free of any kind of submission hold in order to have the points validated with the exception of  the real submission attack that has no specific time frame to have points awarded.


 - TAKE DOWN : 3 POINTS

 - PASSING GUARD: 2 POINTS

 - STANDING UP FROM GROUND TO A CLEAR STAND UP POSITION: 2 POINTS

 - SWEEP/REVERSAL FROM BOTTOM, GUARD OR BACK CONTROL: 2 POINTS

 - CRUCIFIX CHEST/BACK CONTROL: 2 POINTS

 - MOUNT CONTROL: 4 POINTS

 - BACK CONTROL: 4 POINTS

 - REAL ATTACK OF SUBMISSION ABOVE THE WASTE(EXC: WRIST LOCKS) 5 POINTS

 - REAL ATTACK OF SUBMISSION BELOW THE WASTE(INC. WRIST LOCKS) 3 POINTS


  H-4)  in case of drawn Referees  shall evaluate, effective grappling techniques, control of the fight, effective aggressiveness and defence. 


  H-5)  Evaluations shall be made in the order in which the techniques appear in  giving the most weight in scoring to effective Hybrid Grappling Techniques, control of the fighting and effective aggressiveness and defence.   


 H-6)  Effective grappling is judged by considering the amount of successful executions of a legal takedown and reversals, sweeps, passing guards and submission attempts and chase of victory. 

 H-7)  Fighting control is judged by determining who is dictating the pace, location and position of the bout. 

 H-8)  Effective aggressiveness means moving forward always looking for a win. 

 H-9)  Effective defence means avoiding being struck, taken down or reversed while countering with offensive attacks. 

 H-10)  The following objective scoring criteria shall be utilised by the referees when judging a bout;


I) FOULS: 


I-1) The following acts constitute fouls in a contest or exhibition of Hybrid Grappling  Competition and may result in penalties, at the discretion of the referee, if committed: 


1)   Butting with the head  
2)   Eye gouging of any kind 
3) Biting  
4) Spitting at an opponent   
5)   Hair pulling   
6)   Fish hooking   
7)   Groin attacks of any kind   
8)   Putting a finger into any orifice or any cut or laceration of an opponent 
9) Small joint manipulation(at least 3 fingers has to be used)  
10) Striking of any kind    
11) Throat strikes of any kind, including, without limitation, grabbing the trachea 12)   Clawing, pinching or twisting the flesh   
13)   Grabbing the clavicle 
14) Holding the shorts or rash guard of an opponent 
15)   Using abusive language in mat/fighting area 
16) Engaging in any unsportsmanlike conduct that causes injury to an opponent 17) Attacking an opponent on or during the break 
18) Attacking an opponent who is under the care of the referee 
19) Attacking an opponent after the bell has sounded the end of the bout or referee stoppage)  
20) Timidity, including, without limitation, avoiding contact with an opponent 
21) intentionally or consistently dropping the mouthpiece or faking an injury  
22)   Throwing opponent out of mat/fighting area 
23)   Flagrantly disregarding the instructions of the referee 
24)   Spiking an opponent to the canvas on his head or neck 
25)   Interference by the coach 
26)   Applying any foreign substance to the hair or body to gain an advantage 
27 ) any submission attack below the waste different than a straight foot lock or back control counter attack is consider an illegal technique for the UP17, Beginners, Intermediate, Starters and Golden divisions 
28) Can Opener and Twister attacks are consider  illegal techniques for the UP15, UP17, Intermediate, Beginners, Starters and Golden divisions
 29) Any submission below the waste are consider ilegal for the UP15 divisions. 
 30) Any submission is consider ilegal for the UP13 and below divisions 
31) Slams are prohibited in any Hybrid Grappling divisions with the exception of PREMIER division 


 I-2) Disqualification may occur after any combination of 4 fouls or after a flagrant foul at the discretion of the referee. 


 I-3) Fouls may result in two points being awarded to opponent from the second one and ahead.  


 I-4) Only the referee's  can assess a foul. 


 I-5) If a foul is committed: 


I-6) The referee shall call timeout any time as desired and if it is the case the referee shall order the offending contestant to his specific fighting start location.The referee shall check the fouled contestant’s condition and safety. 

I-7) The referee shall then assess the foul to the offending contestant and penalise the athlete  if the referee deems it appropriate, and notify the scorekeeper of his decision.


I-8) If a bottom contestant commits a foul, unless the top contestant is injured, the contest will continue and: 


I-9) The referee will verbally notify the bottom contestant of the foul.

I-10) The referee may terminate a contest based on the severity of a foul.  For such a flagrant foul, the contestant committing the foul shall lose by disqualification. 


I-11) If a contest of Hybrid Grappling is stopped because of an accidental foul, the referee shall determine whether the hybrid grappler who has been fouled can continue or not.  If the hybrid grappler’s chance of winning has not been seriously jeopardised as a result of the foul and if the foul did not involve a concussive impact to the head of the hybrid grappler who has been fouled, the referee may order the contest or exhibition continued after a recuperative interval of not more than 5 minutes.  Immediately after separating the hybrid grapplers, the referee shall inform the scorekeeper of his determination that the foul was accidental.  

 I-12) If the referee stops the contest and employs the use of the tournament doctor, the tournament physician's examinations shall not exceed 5 minutes.  If 5 minutes is exceeded, the fight cannot be re-started and the contest must end.  


 J-) INJURIES SUSTAINED BY FOULS: 


 J-1)  If an injury sustained during competition as a result of a legal manoeuvre is severe enough to terminate a bout, the injured contestant loses the bout.

 J-2)  If an injury sustained during competition as a result of an intentional foul, as determined by the referee, is severe enough to terminate a bout, the contestant causing the injury loses by disqualification. 

 J-3)  If an injury is sustained during competition as a result of an intentional foul, as determined by the referee, and the bout is allowed to continue, the referee shall awarded  two points to the opponent of the contestant who committed the foul. 

 J-4)  If an injury sustained during competition as a result of an intentional foul, as determined by the referee, causes the injured contestant to be unable to continue at a subsequent point in the contest, the injured contestant shall win the bout.

 J-5)  If a contestant injures himself or herself while attempting to foul his or her opponent, the referee shall not take any action in his or her favour, and the injury shall be treated in the same manner as an injured contestant. 

 J-6)  If an injury sustained during competition as a result of an accidental foul, as determined by the referee, is severe enough for the referee to stop the bout immediately The victory shall be awarded for the opponent of the injured contestant, in case both get hurt who he/she has more points on that time of the bout shall be declared the winner and if the drawn persist the winner shall be declared by a coin flip.


 K )TYPES OF CONTEST RESULTS: 


 K-1) Submission by physical/verbal tap out or referee's stoppage. 

 K-2) Points superiority( 30 points ahead of opponent) 

 K-2) when an injury as a result of a legal manoeuvre is sever enough to terminate a bout (ex: slam, going unconscious...) 

 K-3) Decision via points

 K-4) Referee's decision 

 K-5) Disqualification 

 K-6) Forfeit.
